Was listening to the BBC Proms on TV earlier tonight - it was a Sondheim special, it being his 80th birthday this year - and Roz was absolutely captivated by it. We've already clocked that she's much more interested in music and rhythm than Izzy was at the same age. She nods her head or rocks side to side to songs she likes, claps along or waves her hands, and, most noticeably, actually concentrates when music plays. Now that she can walk, she also loves holding on to someone's hands and dancing from foot to foot.
Izzy has grown to like music as she's gotten older and now does what I do - learns lyrics as soon as she likes a song - but, to my recollection anyway, was never as rapt to it as a baby. Typical, no, since we named her 'knowledge' and 'music'.
Anyway was most impressed with Roz and the music tonight - she paid a lot of attention to the first song we caught when we switched to the programme - Sunday in the Park with George - and clapped when it finished, but then she claps after almost any song and particularly when other people are clapping as well.
And she loved it when I sang along to Send in the Clowns, laughing after every line, and trying to put her fingers in my mouth when I whistled the tune. But then she continued to listen to every song and even when she finally started to fall asleep on a cushion on the floor, was turning her head to listen to the music to the last.
